Now Enrolling for Two Career Development Opportunties: Academic Medical Leadership Program for Physicians and Scientists AND Effective Research Execution

2018 Academic Medical Leadership Program for Physicians and Scientists

The previous programs have been very well received by faculty participants and their sponsors; testimonials are included in the new program brochure.  This program is a collaborative effort of the School of Medicine, the Olin School of Business and BJC HealthCare with the primary objective of equipping physicians and scientists to take on expanding roles in academic medicine and health care delivery.  The course will begin January 19, 2018 and continue over the ensuing 6 months for a total of 8 sessions.  The class will be comprised of 20-30 participants.  Enrollment is dependent on the nomination and sponsorship by the applicant’s department head, program director, division chief or other supervisor.

The enrollment period will close November 15, 2017, and applicants will be notified by mid-December.  The timing of receipt of applications will impact the selection decision with earlier applications given preference. Effective Research Execution – New program

A new program targeting junior faculty researchers.  This program was piloted by the OFA in conjunction with Olin Business School this past spring and was well received by participants.

Effective Research Execution (ERE) introduces the fundamental business concepts of strategy, execution and leadership to physicians and scientists at the WUSM.  The course comprises three sections that develop frameworks for understanding and applying competitive advantage, operational excellence and managing organizational dynamics directly to the pursuit of grants, the managing of research programs, as well as the building and influencing of key stakeholders.  The course is designed to accelerate and enhance faculty careers at the medical school.  The program consists of six half-day sessions held in the Mid-Campus Center on Wash Univ Medical Campus.

Session 1: January 25-26, 2018 (1:30-5:00 pm)

Session 2: February 15-16, 2018 (1:00-4:30 pm)

Session 3: March 8-9, 2018 (1:00-4:30 pm)

The fee for this course is $1900.00.  Attendance at all sessions is required.  Please click for application form.
